How I got into DevOps

I’m a DevOps Engineer with three years of experience in second-line support. That background still shapes how I troubleshoot problems, understand systems and approach infrastructure work.

Background

My background

I spent three years in second-line support, working across Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, SQL and VPNs. I enjoyed the troubleshooting side of the role, but I wanted to move closer to the infrastructure itself—building systems rather than only supporting them.

That led me to CoderCo, hands-on DevOps projects and eventually my first DevOps role. I now contribute to infrastructure changes, deployments and automation while continuing to develop my AWS, Kubernetes and system design knowledge through personal projects.

Going beyond deploying workloads to understand scheduling, networking, storage and day-to-day cluster behaviour.

Getting better at using metrics, logs and alerts to understand what a system is doing and where problems begin.
